Yep, you got it all correct. The signature is indeed that of Gustav Thinwebel. Thinwebel designed many more relief steins (this scene is "DeFregger-like", whether it actually is from a DeFregger or not I leave to someone else) than he did etched steins. In earlier posts a few weeks back a previously unreported etched design signed by GT was noted, and the total currently known is 6 or 7 or something very close to that. Nice stein, probably worth about $100.
