Desert Steiners is a chapter of Stein Collectors International serving members in Arizona and New Mexico since 1990. Our current membership stands at 24 families, several of whom also happen to be winter visitors to Arizona. We meet three times a year to enjoy our hobby in a social setting. To accommodate our winter visitor members, meetings are held in January, April, and October. The meetings alternate between Phoenix and Tucson and are held either in a member's home or at local restaurants. Spouses and significant others are not only invited, but are an essential element to the success of our chapter. SCI members traveling in our area are also cordially invited to attend our meetings.
Meetings include stein sales, collection displays, nationally recognized speakers, member talks on their favorite steins and good food and drink. To encourage our members to read Prosit, each meeting a quiz on the latest issue is given with a prize awarded to the top score. Also, each year the chapter purchases a very nice stein to be given away to one lucky member at a drawing held during the October meeting. Each member and significant other get one entry for each meeting they attend. The attendance stein for 2010 (right) is an antique regimental beer stein. The stein was named to the Infanterie-Regt. Markgraf Ludwig Wilhelm (3. Badisches) Nr. 111. This stein’s original owner was Reservist Heitzmann who served in the 111th Infantry Regiment at Rastatt in the Grand Duchy of Baden from 1897 to 1899.
Annual dues are $10 per family.
