The Lone Star Chapter met on September 12, 2009 at the magnificent hill-country ranch of Joe and Irene Haralson. The meeting was co-hosted by Harold and Eloise Tisdal and featured an outstanding barbecue buffet followed by an array of delicious pies. There were 31 members in attendance with everyone in high spirits due the arrival of rainfall to our parched area. David Vandergriff conducted the business portion of our meeting with reports by Dave Cantwell and Joy Ehly. Bruce Ehly will be our Chapter Representative at the Las Vegas SCI Convention with 13 of our members planning to attend.

Jim Hansen provided our members with a Power Point presentation about “Eagles on Steins” which he has perfected for the SCI Convention in October. In addition to steins, there were eagles on thumblifts, lids, plaques, punchbowls, and glass. There were nationalistic and military steins with eagles as well as occupational and turnfest steins. Jim showed his very first stein with an eagle motif which was Mettlach #1732.  

Our meeting concluded with a lively “white elephant” auction conducted by David Vandergriff with Lawrence Beckendorff as auctioneer. Most lots went home with new owners. Our next meeting will be in the Spring and will be announced at a later date.
